What is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme?
The Diploma Programme, for students aged 16-19, is a two-year course of study that prepares students for university. It is a broad and balanced curriculum in which all Diploma Programme students study languages, a social science, an experimental science, mathematics, and an arts or second subject from another curriculum area. Wherever possible, the subjects are approached from an international perspective.
Additionally, there are three components central to the IB Diploma Programme: Creativity, Action, Service; the Extended Essay, and Theory of Knowledge. Each of these components is designed to integrate and extend the student’s learning, and to help the student reach his or her full potential.
Who Should Take the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme?
The IB Diploma Programme is designed for highly motivated secondary students who want an internationally recognized, rigorous, liberal education. The IB Diploma Programme prepares students exceptionally well for university study in all disciplines.
Universities worldwide- including Ontario and the rest of Canada- accept the IB Diploma. Highly successful IB students may receive university-level credit or scholarships based on their IB Diploma scores.
